24 years later, PlayStation Plus is adding a new feature to a beloved PS1 game. On February 21, new games for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium will be released, some of which are vintage PlayStation titles. For instance, the cult-classic PS1 RPG Legend of Dragoon will be included in this batch of titles and, according to a reliable source, will come with a new feature when it launches.
For those who don’t know, PlayStation Plus is the most expensive tier of the Japanese tech giant’s recently updated PS Plus programme. Customers who purchase PS Plus have a number of advantages, including the free use of specific PS1, PS2, and PSP titles. Even certain PS3 games that are available for streaming are accessible to buyers. As part of this subscription model, premium customers can also download trials that last a specific amount of time, enabling them to play games for a set time such as 3 hours for God of War Ragnarok.
Even so, current information indicates that this also brings updates to far older titles. This includes Dragoon: The Legend. A new award system, which wasn’t even a feature offered more than twenty years ago, would be available through the PS Plus Premium Tier. But this feature isn’t yet ready for release. But, according to reliable sources, The Legend of Dragoon’s trophies will be included shortly after the game is made available on PS Plus Premium.
When the game is released, it will reportedly contain bronze, silver, and gold trophies. It is still being determined whether or not it will feature a platinum trophy. The source did mention that the trophies could not be completed and available when the game is launched via PS Plus Premium on February 21. To put it another way, it might be added later.
Although this information comes from a trustworthy source, it’s important to note that PlayStation has not in any way confirmed it. Yet when it comes to PS Plus Premium, this would not be the first PlayStation classic to have trophy support, and usually, when this happens, it happens quietly, so the silence is not all that strange.
Now as for the game itself, Legend of Dragoon was produced by PlayStation in 1999 for the PS1 and the PS1 exclusively after being created by the now-defunct SIE Japan. It was never released on any other consoles or updated for the present day. After its initial release, the game sold over a million copies and received a Metacritic score of 74. Although neither of these facts stands out, the game is widely regarded as a cult classic from the heyday of role-playing games.
Recently, Sony has added trophy support for vintage games accessible through PS Plus Premium. These contain games like Super Stardust Portable and No Heroes Allowed. The company’s decision to sponsor The Legend of Dragoon with trophies won’t come as a huge surprise. The launch date for the Premium service is February 21.
